Tyron Flat tyre protection provides mobility and safety during and after sudden tyre deflation, allowing the driver to continue to a safe place to seek assistance or change the wheel.
The Tyron MultiBand locks the deflated tyre onto the wheel which allows you to drive to an area of safety. Locking the tyre onto the wheel enables the wheel rim to run on the tyre rubber, not metal, giving the driver greater control to steer out of danger by stopping the tyre from coming off the wheel and the vehicle becoming unstable.
The Tyron MultiBands were originally designed for police forces but are now used on a wide variety of vehicles from cars and caravans to ambulances, fire appliances, VIP transport, cash-in-transit vans and commercial vehicles.
Tyron MultiBands are lightweight, so they do not affect fuel consumption, acceleration and braking and with no moving parts the Tyron MultiBand does not affect the balance of the wheels, are maintenance free and are fitted for the life of the wheel.
The Tyron MultiBand was invented in 1977 and consisted of a special aluminium wheel and Aluminium band.
In the early 80’s due to a request from the British MoD, Tyron developed a range of steel bands for the Land Rover steel wheels, not only were they far stronger than the aluminium bands but also solved the problem of ‘Gaslvanic’ reaction between the two different metals where the aluminium bands were prone to welding onto the steel wheels preventing removal of tyres when they needed to be changed.
In 2002 Tyron re-designed and patented a new Tyron MultiBand which is adjustable for height to accommodate the changing designs in wheel wells. The handling performance of the vehicle is improved due to the ‘plug in’ feet creating extra ‘grip’ between the Tyron band and the wheel outperforming all other Safety Band designs.
In 2008 Tyron invented the world’s first All Terrain Rubber (ATR) insert which is fitted without any special tools or expensive hydraulic presses to military split rims, giving excellent off road capabilities with runflat capability of up to 150 km which far exceeds the Finabel standard.
In 2009 Tyron developed the R4 wheel for armoured 4×4 and cash carrying vehicles. This super strong alloy wheel, with a load rating of 1600kgs, incorporates an ingenious beadlock design. When fitted with our RSR-ATR they allow you to travel on or off road for over 50 km with all 4 tyres deflated.
In 2013 Tyron entered into a partnership with Global Wheels of South Africa to provide military customers with complete wheel assemblies including Michelin, Pirelli and Continental tyres offering one stop shopping.
In February 2017 Tyron announced the Tyron Carbon-ATR which achieves a weight reduction of up to 50%. These are especially suitable for 1400R20 and 1600R20s which are fitted to heavy 8×8 armoured vehicles.
Tyron continues to develop runflat technology for civilian and military wheel safety and security and offers support through its extensive worldwide sales and service network.
